I recently came across a product called THYMOS Anti HFMD/Flu Spray.  Manufacturer of the product claims that it is effective in killing 99.99% of influenza and the hand, foot and mouth disease virus. The product is a spray meant for use on surfaces such as clothing, toys, and other places that requires cleaning. It is NOT a hand sanitiser meant to be used on the human body. Manufacturer claims a single spray can last up to 10 days. Despite the claims, it seems that the effectiveness against HFMD is baseless and there is no strong evidence showing that the product is as effective as claimed. At the end of the day, good hygiene and frequent hand wash is still paramount to protect against any viruses and bacteria. Have you used this product or are you using it right now? Over the past 4 months thereabout, I have been keeping close tab on the hand, foot and mouth (HFMD) situation in Singapore’s preschools. Though I did not start from the beginning of 2018, I do compiled more than 3 months worth of data to put forward a list of top 5 preschools with prolonged HFMD transmission. How is Prolonged HFMD Transmission Calculated? There are 2 criteria to be met before the Ministry of Health (MOH) will flag out a preschool as having prolonged HFMD transmission. Having 10 or more cases of HFMD over a continuous period of at least 17 days; OR 13% or more students in the preschool suffering from HFMD over a continuous period of at least 17 days. In more severe cases, the preschools will be ordered to close for 10 days if: The school has more than 16 cases of HFMD over a continuous period of at least 25 days; OR 13% or more students in the preschool suffering from HFMD over a continuous period of at least 25 days.
